Tocardo Tidal Turbines, an international producer of tidal and free-flow water turbines, has opened a UK headquarters located in Plymouth. Plymouth is an ideal geographic location to help Tocardo develop its operations in the UK, France and Ireland and provide project support to its world-wide operations.
According to Paul Morris, Managing Director of Tocardo UK, “Plymouth is an excellent location, since it offers a network of professional marine and environmental experts as well as a University which produces high quality graduates with appropriate qualifications”.
According to industry experts it is estimated that the UK and France have Europe’s biggest tidal potential. Tocardo is at the forefront of tidal and in-stream power generation development and one of only a few tidal energy companies commercially producing tidal energy turbines.
Commenting on the French Government’s proposal, announced in early October, to carry out four pilot tests off the Normandy and Brittany coasts, Paul Morris said: “Having the office in Plymouth will strengthen our ability to tender for pilot demonstration arrays in both British and French coastal waters. We believe Tocardo’s ability to provide proven tidal energy technology will put us in a strong position when pitching for these projects”.
Hans van Breugel, CEO of Tocardo International BV, says: “Opening a new UK office in Plymouth is the latest in a series of strategic advances in Tocardo’s business. Over the past months we have also announced partnerships with Climex, the trading platform for renewable energy and Repsol, the international integrated energy company.”
